The season came to a close for Salem Saturday, as the fourth-seeded Lady Tigers were swept by top-seeded Strafford 25-17, 25-15, 25-18 in the semifinals of the Missouri Class 3 District 9 Tournament in Strafford.
Salem had advanced to the semifinals by sweeping past fifth-seeded St. James 25-21, 25-12, 25-16 in the first round Thursday.
The Lady Tigers end the season with an 11-16-3 record.
In the other semifinal match second-seeded Fair Grove swept past third-seeded Buffalo 3-0.
Strafford was to meet Fair Grove in the district title match Monday.
For Salem against Strafford, Avery Erway had seven digs, an ace and eight kills; Malerie Workman 14 digs, four assists and four kills; Shelby Pogue 13 digs, one assist and two kills; Skyler Klapperich 12 digs, seven assists and one kill, and Kylee Shalbot 11 digs.
For Salem against St. James, Erway had 17 kills, one block and one ace; Klapperich 12 assists, six digs, six kills and five aces; Workman 11 assists, 10 digs, seven kills and an ace; Jaden Flores one assist, one dig and three kills; Makayla Roos three digs and one kill; Cayleigh Moody six assists, five digs, one kill and one ace; Shalbot 10 digs and two assists; Pogue 11 digs and one block, and Faith LaJoie one dig.
“I am extremely proud of how the Lady Tigers played this season,” said Salem head coach Kristen Barnes. “And a special thank you to the seniors this year for all of their hard work. They will be greatly missed.”
