Funeral service for Edgar “Ed” Clarence Major was September 14, 2020 at James & Gahr Mortuary Chapel, Salem, with Phil Newcom officiating.
Music was provided by Ann Emory and Lisa Wulff.
Interment was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
Pallbearers were Chad Smith, C.J. Smith, Jon Johnson, Jason Bass, Jereme Patton and Jordan Thompson. Honorary pallbearers were Walker and Toree Smith.
Mr. Major was born May 5, 1934 in Dent County to Raymond and Erma (Mounce) Major. He married Wanda Wisdom June 18, 1955. They were the parents of two daughters. Mr. Major died September 8, 2020 in Salem at the age of 86 years.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Major, Salem; daughters, Cheryl Smith and husband, Greg, Salem; and Darla Major, Salem; grandsons, Chad Smith and wife, Krystle, Salem; and C.J. Smith and wife, Rachel, Salem; great-grandchildren, Walker and Toree Smith, Salem; brother, Larry Major, Salem; special friend, Christina Hansen and husband, Bill, St. Louis: and a host of extended family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Mr. Major served in the United States Army for two years and transferred to the National Guard for six more years. He was a 50-plus year member of the Salem Masonic Lodge #225 AF-AM, Shrine, Scottish Rite and member of the Eastern Star #186. Mr. Major was also a member of the First Baptist Church, Salem, where he was very active until his health no longer permitted.
