The City of Salem conducted cutoffs Thursday morning on past due utility accounts. In compliance with the city's current ordinance regarding cold weather rules, the forecast was looked at and it was determined that it was not expected to get below freezing in the 24 hours following cut offs.
Protocol was followed, and we continued with the cutoff process.
Thursday after checking the forecast again, it was noted that there had been a change in expected temperatures and our area is expected to see below-freezing temps.
With the new development in weather, I have ordered that utilities be restored for shut off customers. City staff is currently working to get customers turned back on and power should be fully restored in the next few hours, long before the risk of freezing temperatures.
