A Salem man faces multiple felony offenses in connection to allegedly committing multiple sex crimes against a child, according to documents filed in circuit court.

Matthew S. Carrera, 24, was charged Wednesday with three felony counts of statutory sodomy or attempted statutory sodomy - deviate sexual intercourse with a person less than 14 years of age. His bond was set at $500,000.

The case’s probable cause report quotes an adolescent girl as telling law enforcement and forensic investigators that Carrera had been regularly coercing her into sexual acts since this spring. A physical examination of her is also cited as confirming sexual trauma had occurred.

One witness is quoted in the report as telling law enforcement they heard Carrera confess to the allegations. Another witness is quoted as telling law enforcement they too heard Carrera confess to the allegations, and also heard the victim detail the alleged incidents committed by Carrera.

The report states Carrera refused to answer questions from law enforcement and asked for counsel during an interview at the Dent County Sheriff’s Office.
