Your Community Health Center is coming to Dent County.
“Your Healthy Dent County has always wanted a physical presence in Dent County,” said Outreach and Marketing Manager Felisha Richards when asked about the new location going into the building that used to house the Dent County Health Center.
“We have a mobile unit that has been operating bi-weekly in Dent County since January, alternating between Dent and Crawford,” she said.
Richards told The Salem News that she’s not sure the exact date the new building will be open for services, but she hopes that it will be by early 2022 after various renovations have been completed.
In the meantime, the YCHC mobile unit will continue to be at the Healthy Dent County located at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory on a bi-weekly basis.
Richards stated that she is grateful for all the support that Healthy Dent County provides them.
Richards said that YCHC is the place where people who are underserved can be served to make the community a healthier place.
“YCHC is an access point for service,” said Richards.
One of the problems that Richards said that the YCHC hopes to combat in Dent County is that only 36% of Dent residents who qualify for dental care through Medicaid actually utilize their coverage. She hopes a brick and mortar location will increase community awareness and give them a more tangible and permanent presence.
Another major focus of YCHC is the prevention of medical opioid crisis in America. The YCHC has licensed professional counselors available to those who need help and medications to treat overdoses.

Richards said that she is really happy with the amount of support that local law-enforcement agencies, Healthy Dent County, Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health and the Dent County Health Center have given.
