The Dent-Phelps R-III Board of Education met Feb. 23. The board approved the revised 2020-21 budget with a 6-0 vote, with Anita Studdard absent.

The board also discussed the following bids for roof repairs: L&S - $11,750, Williams American Construction - $19,395 and Superior Industrial Coatings - $25,650. The motion carried 6-0.

Also discussed at the meeting:

• Chromebook and iPad device handbook: Nick Gover moved to waive the insurance fee on the devices for the current school year when students take them home, then apply a $25 flat fee for insurance, beginning with the 2021-22 school year, for each device taken home for fifth through eighth grades. Incidental fees will apply this current school year for all grades. A Dent-Phelps R-III Usage Agreement and Dent-Phelps R-III Technology Agreement would be required to be signed before devices could be taken home. The motion passed 6-0, with Alisa Brookshire absent

• COVID-19 plan: Vicky Brooker notified the Board that the change by Dent County Health Department to allow for a shortened quarantine period of 10 days in certain situations would not apply at the district, since the six feet social distancing at all times is not possible.

• Reports: Mrs. Brooker gave the Principal’s report in Mrs. Studdard’s absence and the Superintendent’s report.

Alisa Brookshire arrived at 8 p.m. The board voted to go into closed session at 8:52 p.m.

In closed session the board voted 5-2 to rehire Anita Studdard as principal for the 2021-22 school year. Caleb Gidcumb and Nick Gover voted no.
