Serious injuries were reported Sunday as a result of a one-vehicle crash that occurred 10 miles south of Salem on Highway 19, according to an online report of Troop I of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

A 1989 GMC Pickup Truck, driven by Darwin H. Hayes, 55, of Salem, was northbound at 7:45 a.m. Sunday when it failed to negotiate a curve, travelled off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

Hayes received serious injuries in the crash and was flown by Phelps Air to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.

The GMC sustained total damage and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing.
