Lone Pine Ranch, owned and operated by Brian and Nancy Inman, will host a barrel racing benefit event Oct. 2. In the second annual event, proceeds will benefit Grace Harbor, a community homeless shelter.
“We are very excited to support Grace Harbor and are looking forward to our second annual benefit barrel race,” said Lone Pine Ranch event coordinator Jana Helton. “It’s been a blessing to be able to give back to the community after our support every year.”
This year's benefit begins with trainers at 9 a.m., followed by competition at 1 p.m. The events will run late into the evening with family fun, food and racing entertainment. In addition to several vendors, there will also be a silent auction, cook shack and pee wee prizes. All Cook Shack funds, silent auction proceeds, and 10 percent of the entry fee money will go directly to Grace Harbor.
“It is an honor to be chosen as the recipient of this year's Lone Pine Benefit. We want Grace Harbor to be a community wide mission and feel that the community is backing us as we start serving the homeless youth and families with children in Dent County," said Kathy Bryant, volunteer at Grace Harbor.
Grace Harbor is completely funded by donations and operates with only volunteers. Bryant says the money raised at this event will be used for needs at the shelter and its patrons and is a blessing to have. Dent County Animal Shelter, the benefactor of the 2020 event, was presented with a $2,500 check by Lone Pine Ranch.
For those wishing to enter racing categories, entries begin at 8 a.m. and are closed by the fifth horse to run in the class wishing to be entered. Payouts will be given to winners in several categories, including: Pee Wee ($10 entry), Youth 3D ($20 entry), and Open 5D ($35 entry), as well as belt buckles, sponsored by local businesses. Training barrels begin at 10 a.m. Races will not begin before 1 p.m.
Lone Pine, in its fourth year, hosts horse shows the second Friday of every month during the summer.
Donations are still being taken at this time for the benefit show. If you would like to donate to the benefit, contact Jana Helton, (573) 247-9462.
The ranch is located on County Road 2630, off Hwy. 72.
