Funeral service for Raymond Vincent Underwood Jr. was July 15, 2019 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Salem, with Father Jose Antoney officiating.
Music was provided by Catherine Dent and Lisa Wulff.
Interment was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post.
Pallbearers were Don Adamick, Richard Baker, Joe Adamick, Mark Weaver, Larry Adamick and Paul Dale.
Mr. Underwood was born October 5, 1928 in Independence to R.V. Sr. and Cynthia (Dold) Underwood. He married Clare Dent December 30, 1961. They were the parents of two children. Mr. Underwood died July 9, 2019 in Salem at the age of 90 years.
Survivors include his wife, Clare Underwood, Salem; children, Dr. R. Dent Underwood and wife, Mary, St. Paul, Minnesota; and Ramona Baldwin, Warrensburg; brothers, Donald Underwood and wife, Betty, Independence; and George Underwood and wife, Dee, Lake Winnebago; sister-in-law, Linda Scott and husband, Frederick, Chesterfield; brother-in-law, Thomas Dent and wife, Roberta, St. Charles; grandchildren, Catherine and husband, Vince; Paul; Elizabeth and fiancé, Jonathan; Margaret Mary; Anna Clare; Sarah; Mary Grace and fiancé, Don; Anne Marie and Amelia Rose; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Mr. Underwood spent three years on active duty with the U.S. Coast Guard and 27 years in the Coast Guard Reserve; attaining the rank of Commander. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, past president of the Salem R-80 School Board and past member of the Missouri Blue Cross/ Blue Shield Board.
