The Shannon County Museum will have a special dedication of exhibits at 10:30 a.m., July 20, at the museum on Main Street in Eminence.
There will be a short program for each dedication to elaborate on the contributions of the people being honored.
The art room will be named “The Hilma Hughes Shannon County Art Gallery” in honor of her tireless efforts to make the museum a reality and the countless hours she spent supporting it. The museum has the work of several local artists, including Hilma Hughes, Linnis Broadfoot, Perry Bryan, Edith Brown, Jack Burrus, Swiney Rayfield, Dan Searcy and others.
The genealogy library will be named “The David Dix Shannon County Genealogy Library.” David had a lifelong interest in the history and genealogy of the county and was a museum board member and volunteer for many years. He developed an index of the family histories and other documents in the museum collection to assist those who use the library.
One of the special exhibits at the museum is a display of items related to astronaut Tom Akers and his space shuttle flights. Tom will be present to talk about his experience and answer questions.
Family members from the Hughes, Dix, and Akers families are expected to attend. Please plan to attend this special event to show the families your appreciation for the work their loved ones did in support of the museum.
