The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its fifth annual rodeo Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at Dent County Commons.

Outlaw Rodeo Productions puts on the Missouri Rodeo Cowboys Association/United Rodeo Association-sanctioned show, with riders competing for points on the rodeo circuit.

Chamber director Tabatha Utley said a few local people signed up to ride bulls at the last minute in 2018, but the majority of the riders will be professionals.

Events include bareback and saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, calf roping and breakaway roping. Spectators will see the full complement of riding events both nights starting at 7:30. A concession stand and vendors will be on the grounds.

“One of our biggest attractions is our barrel racers,” Utley said. “We have a few different people from Salem and Licking in that ride. Melba Headrick with KSMO is one of our local riders who always gets a great following.”

This year’s rodeo will feature a “Salute Our Veterans” theme with spectators encouraged to wear patriotic colors. Discounted advance tickets are available at the Chamber office, 200 S. Main. The price is $8 for adults, $5 for children 5-11.
