Deputies of Dent County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 1200 block of Highway CC in reference to burglary/robbery in progress, 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10. The caller told dispatch that the suspect had her gun and attempted to strike her with a crowbar. The caller advised dispatch that she fled into the woods and the suspect had stolen her car. Due to the nature of the call, assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and surrounding agencies was requested. The victim vehicle’s description was provided to all agencies.
The Licking Police Department located the stolen vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to yield for officers of the Licking Police Department and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit entered back into Dent County where stop sticks were deployed. The pursuit ended on Dent County Road 2410 at which time the driver fled on foot into a wooded area.
An intensive manhunt was conducted by the Dent County Sheriff’s Office, Salem Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol and Licking Police Department. After a rigorous search, the suspect was not located. Deputies continued to patrol the area and search buildings throughout the overnight hours.
A call was received Friday morning into the Dent County Sheriff’s Office dispatch from a resident in the 8000 block of W. Highway 32. The caller advised that an unknown male subject had been located inside of a camper on their property. Deputies responded to the location and took the suspect into custody without further incident.
It was determined that the subject located in the camper was the same suspect from the Oct. 10 incident on Highway CC. He was identified as Vernon Dale Parker, Jr. of Springfield. Charges are pending against the suspect upon application of warrants.
