MFA Incorporated

Representatives from MFA Cooperative Association of Salem announced today that it is selling its business to MFA Incorporated. The sale is anticipated to close July 31.

MFA Cooperative Association of Salem is a long-time affiliate dealer of MFA Incorporated products and has operated under its own board of directors and management since its founding in 1932. Operating as a local cooperative, the company provides area farmers with agricultural supplies including feed, agronomy inputs, gates, fencing, and farm equipment.

At a meeting Thursday evening, the membership of MFA Cooperative Association of Salem voted to approve the sale of the company’s assets to MFA Incorporated.

Current circumstances in agriculture have brought challenges to the industry’s retail organizations. Farm prices, trade issues, regulations, and rising expenses have put pressure on all of agriculture, particularly smaller businesses.

“As a board of directors, we appreciate MFA Incorporated accepting the responsibility for taking over operations in Salem and maintaining an MFA presence in the area,” said Kenny Wells, MFA Cooperative Association of Salem board president.

MFA Incorporated is a Midwest-based regional farm supply and marketing cooperative serving more than 45,000 farmer/owners. The organization operates 140 MFA Agri Services Centers in Missouri and neighboring states and has business agreements with 24 locally owned affiliated cooperatives.

“MFA Incorporated has a history of successfully working with farmers through local cooperatives, and we appreciate the customer base in Salem,” said Ernie Verslues, MFA President and CEO. “We plan to make the transition without interruption in service. As customers of MFA Incorporated, farmers around Salem will have access to the MFA products they need on the farm and new access to MFA services and product experts.”

The location will officially open as Salem MFA Agri Services on Aug. 1.
