The North Wood R-IV school board set the 2019 tax rate, approved a new budget and a free and reduced lunch program at its monthly meeting Aug. 8.

After a hearing and discussion, the board set the 2019 property tax rate for $3.05 per $100 of assessed valuation.

Superintendent Jeff Dodson presented the 2019-20 budget, which the board approved 5-0, as well as a budget message. The board also set a stipend schedule for extra responsibilities.

The Annual Secretary of the Board report of financial information was presented to the board for review and was approved. The board also voted to implement Attachment A of the free and reduced lunch program.

In other action, the board passed a motion by Jarred Brown to allow parents to walk their students to class until the end of the first full week of school and then have them drop the children off at the front door.

Board members voted to table the emergency drill schedule until September. Approved were motions to award the food supplies bid to US Foods and a motion to approve the facility usage agreement as presented.

In closed session, the board voted to hired Gale Huffman and Brenda Ball for the 2019-20 school year.
