A Salem man was killed and three others seriously injured Sunday night as a result of a two-vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of Highway 72 and State Route J, according to an online report of Troop I of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The patrol report states a 2000 Suzuki Grand Vitara, driven by Megan L. Caesar, 23, of Salem, was southbound on Highway 72 at 9:10 p.m. Sunday waiting to turn left onto State Route J when a northbound 2016 GMC Pickup, driven by Cynthia L. Fruehauf, 61, of Greenbriar, Arkansas, crossed the center of the roadway and struck it head on.

Suzuki passenger Timothy L. Gibson, 72, of Salem, was pronounced dead at 11:11 p.m. Sunday after being transported for treatment to Salem Memorial District Hospital.

Fruehauf, Caesar and Suzuki passenger James W. Gibson, 61, of Salem, all received serious injuries. James Gibson and Caeser were transported by Air Evac to University Hospital in Columbia. Fruehauf was transported by Air Evac to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.

The incident is Troop I's third fatality in June and 15th for 2019.
