The Dent County Jackpot Show was held Saturday, and the Dent County Commons was full of aspiring youth showing animals, including lambs, goats, hogs and steers.
The show was a mandatory requirement for all first-time exhibitors showing an animal at the upcoming 4-H/FFA Expo, scheduled for July 16-20, right back at the Dent County Commons.
Saturday’s jackpot show was open to all youth ages five through 21, and included not only Dent County youth, but youth from all over Missouri who arrived early and stayed late.
The junior livestock committee paid the $20 jackpot show registration fee for one animal for all Dent County first-time exhibitors.
Hogs started the day with weigh-in at 7 a.m., followed by goats, lambs and steers. Show classes began with hogs at 9 a.m., and goats, lamb and steers followed.
Jackpot Show prizes were awarded in 14 categories, including grand champion, reserve champion, market animals, showmanship and ribbons for each weight class division. Buckles were awarded to champions and showmanship.
